UFC selects Kelvin Gastelum to face Donald Cerrone at UFC 205

Initially, Cerrone would face Robbie Lawler on the card in New York, but the former division champion asked for more time to rest. Gastelum, who was scheduled to face Jorge masvidal at the TUF América Latina Finale, on November 5th, in Mexico City, he agreed to replace Lawler and was removed from his original fight, and now Ultimate is looking for a new opponent for Masvidal. The information was confirmed by Brett Okamoto, journalist at ESPN (USA), together with president Dana White.

Cerrone, 33 years old, is known for always staying very active and not turning down opponents. He already has 22 fights in the UFC alone, with 18 wins and four losses, in addition to collecting performance bonuses for the night, 12 in total. Of the last 14 times he stepped into the octagon, he won 12, being defeated only twice, both times by Rafael dos Anjos.

At 24 years old, Gastelum, winner of The Ultimate Fighter 17, is coming off an important victory over the former champion John hendricks at the historic UFC 200, and a new positive result puts him in the pool of possible next challengers. In the UFC, he has seven wins and two losses, one of them to Tyron woodley, current belt holder.

Just confirmed with @danawhite, Cowboy Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum agreed for UFC 205 on Nov. 12 at MSG.
