With two title fights, UFC 129 promises to stop Canada this Saturday

After more than 30 days without any shows, Ultimate returns in full style. With two title fights and record attendance for the organization, UFC 129, an event to be held this Saturday, promises to move the city of Toronto, Canada.

PUBLICITY:

“This is the biggest event the UFC has ever had. I was sure of selling 32 thousand tickets, but I didn't imagine selling 55 thousand, and so quickly”, said Dana White, president of the organization.

Among the attractions on the card, the Brazilian José Aldo, UFC featherweight champion, will put his title on the line against the tough Canadian Mark hominick.

PUBLICITY:

“Aldo is ready to take the belt back to Brazil,” said Jorge “Joinha” Guimarães, the Brazilian’s manager, to SUPER FIGHTS. “He won't want to get into 'in fighting' (contact range of blows) with Hominick because we all know that the Canadian has very good boxing. But Aldo will use his movement, his low kicks and some silly takedowns to win the fight”, added Joinha.

In the main fight of the night, another title fight: the local idol, Georges St Pierre, will defend his reign in the welterweight division against the North American Jake Shields.

PUBLICITY:

“I am very honored to be part of all of this. Jake (Shields) has been undefeated for five years and has won the last 15 fights, but he has been in several other events and has only had one fight in the UFC. Fighting for the Ultimate belt is different. He has no idea what I can do to win. I’m very different from the last guy he faced”, teased the champion.

Moreover, Jake Shields comes from an impressive streak of 15 consecutive victories and promises to silence the 55 thousand fans who will be at the Rogers Center supporting GSP.

“Honestly, I don’t care about the fans. Just me and him will be there inside the Octagon. I've wanted to face GSP for years and there are a lot of people waiting for me to lose, but I have no intention of leaving the Octagon without the belt”, said Shields, who suffered his last defeat in 2004.

At the weigh-in, which took place this Friday, St. Pierre was quick and direct in his statement after stepping on the scale.

“Canada… Don’t blink, don’t blink,” said a smiling champion.

In addition to the two title fights, the UFC 129 fight program also features another duel that promises to excite the public. Back in the Octagon after two consecutive defeats, the Brazilian Lyoto Machida will face off against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. Without fear of defeat, Lyoto says he can find his way back to victory this Saturday.

“I was very in the spotlight! Maybe this stop, getting away from the crowd a little, has done me good”, said Lyoto.
