In the main fight of UFC on FOX 21, this Saturday (27), in Vancouver (Canada), the Brazilian Demian Maia face Carlos Condit with an eye on a shot at the title. The duel could identify the next challenger in the fierce welterweight division of the biggest MMA organization on the planet.

Dominated by Georges St Pierre for seven years, the welterweight category is currently one of the most competitive in the organization. Last month we saw Tyron woodley knock off Robbie Lawler and becomes the new champion at 77 kg.

In January of this year, at the first event of 2016, Condit narrowly missed taking the belt from Lawler after having one of the best fights of recent times, won by Robbie in a split decision from the judges. Before that, he ran over Thiago Alves from Ceará by technical knockout. Maia comes from five consecutive victories, with emphasis on the last three performances, in which he completely dominated Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson and Matt Brown, in sequence.

The duel will be a legitimate clash of styles. Demian is world-renowned for his world-class jiu-jitsu, considered by many to be the best ever adapted for MMA. Carlos is almost the opposite. Although he has a fair game on the ground, the North American's main strength is his striking, which has already earned him five knockouts in Ultimate. In this case, it remains to be seen who will be able to impose their rhythm first, who will certainly have a slight advantage during the fight.

In the second most important attraction of the night, Charles of the Bronx welcomes former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, which is moving down a category for the first time. Charles is sixth in the featherweight rankings and is coming off a victory over Myles Jury in December 2015, and a victory could put the Brazilian close to a title shot. On the contrary, Pettis is going through the worst phase of his career with three setbacks in a row, and needs more than ever to get back into the winners' gap to regain his former self-confidence.

Closing the main card, the promise paige vanzant duels with Bec Rawlings for a place in the sun in the strawweight division, while the veterans Jim Miller e Joe lauzon seek a return to the lightweight elite. In the preliminary portion, the highlight is debutante Felipe Silva – the third Tupiniquim representative of the night – who will face off against local fighter Shane Campbell. At 32 years old, Silva has won the seven professional fights he has had and is excited for his debut in the biggest MMA organization in the world.
