One day after seeing Rory McDonald migrating towards Bellator, the UFC acted quickly and tried to keep one of the organization's most important and active fighters. According to the North American website MMA Junkie, the former lightweight challenger Donald Cerrone renewed his contract with Ultimate for another eight fights. He had his last fight with UFC against Rick Story at UFC 202, which took place last Saturday (20), where he won by knockout in the second round.

"I'm not going anywhere. They (UFC) seem very happy with me, so I see great things with this company. I feel like I'm a veteran of the sport. I love that. I love fighting for the UFC, and this is my drug. I need as much as I can get – I feel like a crack addict here already looking for another fight,” stated the Cowboy at the post-UFC 202 press conference.

Cerrone, who has been working in the welterweight division, also took the opportunity to ask for a duel with Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title, citing the fact that he had already beaten the current champion in January 2015. Dana White, president of the UFC, appears not to have approved very much into the idea, and said he had other plans for the fighter. A curious detail is that Donald is the only athlete to be ranked in two different categories: sixth in the featherweight division and seventh among the welterweight division.

Donald Cerrone, 33 years old, is one of the most experienced athletes on the UFC roster. With 18 wins and four losses in the organization, he collects performance bonuses from the night (there are 12 in total) and has already challenged for the belt once, but ended up defeated by the former champion Rafael dos Anjos. Of the last 14 times he stepped into the Octagon, he triumphed 12, being defeated only twice, both against Dos Anjos. In total, he has 31 victories, seven setbacks and one unsuccessful fight.
