One of those responsible for creating the old MMA, now MMA, Brazilian Hélio Gracie passed away in 2009, but the jiu-jitsu master still receives tributes from around the world. The fighter's story was the subject of a documentary produced by the Biography Channel.
The production shows the trajectory of Hélio Gracie, Gastão Gracie's fifth son (the youngest among his sons), from his birth in Belém, Pará, to his consecration as a slight fighter, who adapted the sport to his physical limitations, going through the historical challenges posed to practitioners of other combat modalities.
“I fought to prove that my art was good, to show that the jiu-jitsu I did was superior to other disciplines,” said Hélio during the film's trailer.
The documentary about the life of Hélio Gracie will air this Monday (28), starting at 20 pm on the Biography Channel.
