Blauna Dian Sonnen was born on August 12th, about ten weeks earlier than expected. The reason for the premature birth was that Chael's wife, Brittany, had contracted the listeria bacteria, transmitted mainly by eating contaminated food.

Chael and Brittany have been married since 2013 and already have a son, Thero, born in 2015. After that, Sonnen was caught in a series of drug tests and received a suspension that expired in early August. The athlete considered returning to MMA, but it is not yet known whether the personal drama will affect his plans.
