Conor McGregor was not very impressed with the victory of José Aldo about Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, in July, which gave the Brazilian the interim belt in the featherweight division. According to the Irishman, Aldo did not pursue the fight as he should have and acted in an excessively safe manner.

McGregor watched the fight up close, from the side of the Octagon. The Irishman made a point of remaining standing during the fight to send a message to both fighters. “That’s my category. My belt. These guys keep saying all kinds of things, so I just wanted to stand up and make them see that I'm here. 'Let's see what you have'. And, at the end of the fight, I saw it. Frankie couldn't touch him and Aldo was dancing back and forth, playing it safe. I said: 'Fight, c******. Do you want the fight? Then win her over. You can't play it safe like that.' He was running from side to side, slapping, and that was it. I saw the same thing I had been seeing: if we signed a contract to fight again, he would run away again”, he said, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.
McGregor did not rule out the possibility of returning to featherweight and facing Aldo again, but stated that, at the moment, he does not feel attracted to that scenario. “It’s not an easy cut, but now I have a nutritionist with me. Additionally, Aldo had the best weight cut of his career. IV fluids were banned, but I made championship weight and fully rehydrated. It was brand new. So, the weight is there to be beaten. But it needs to be something correct, I need to be intrigued by it. I can't be intrigued by a guy who runs around. When I look at José, I still see a fugitive”, he added.
Before thinking about returning to featherweight, McGregor fights Nate diaz this Saturday (20), in the main fight of UFC 202, in Las Vegas (USA). The fight will be held in the welterweight category, 11 kg above the category in which he won the title.
