For a long time, MMA fans wanted to see Chris Cyborg moving down to the bantamweight division and facing the best fighters in the UFC, such as Ronda Rousey, Holly holm ou Miesha Tate. However, a video released by the Brazilian could put a damper on expectations.
Cyborg published a trailer for the documentary that will show behind the scenes of his preparation for UFC 198, held in May, in Curitiba (PR), when he made his debut in the main MMA organization on the planet. The Brazilian, who normally fights at featherweight (66 kg), performed at a catchweight of 63 kg against Leslie Smith.
The gradual descent was expected to be the first step towards the bantamweight division (61 kg), the heaviest category currently present in the UFC among women. However, the video shows that Cyborg underwent a brutal weight cut before the fight, which involved moments of tears and despair for the fighter. As a result, it seems unlikely that the Brazilian would be able to lose another 2 kg and perform regularly in the UFC.
Despite the suffering, Cyborg performed well and knocked out Smith in the opening moments of the fight. Now, the Brazilian will return to the octagon in September, in the main fight of the UFC Brasilia, when she faces Lina Lansberg also at a catchweight of 63 kg.
