According to Mike Dolce, who works with Ronda Rousey, a period of 48 hours would be more appropriate for athletes to fully recover.

In recent months, the main MMA events in the United States have been adopting a different format for their weigh-ins, which are now held around 30 hours before the start of the attraction. However, the famous nutritionist in the fight world Mike Dolce wants to go further: he proposed that fighters face the scales the day before their fights.

Traditionally, weigh-ins took place 24 hours before the fights, in a ceremony that lasted around 30 minutes. Now, fighters have a three-hour window to face the scales the morning of the day before the fight.

Despite the progress praised by athletes, Dolce believes that this is not enough. “What if it was 48 hours earlier? It's very simple, and is based on evidence about the bag of fluids that protects the brain. 24 hours are not enough for this bag to replenish itself. 36 hours are not enough for this bag to replenish itself. All the data shows that 48 hours is a more appropriate time for this to happen. For the health and safety of the athletes, we want the weigh-in to take place 48 hours before the fight”, he suggested, in an interview with the “MMA Junkie Radio” podcast.

Despite Dolce's suggestion, who works with names like Ronda Rousey, the change should not happen soon. At upcoming UFC events in the United States, weigh-ins will continue to take place approximately 30 hours before the official start of the fights.
