Thales Leites submits and recovers in UFC; Ron Jason loses

The weekend was not just about the Olympics for Brazilian sport. Despite the opening of the Games in Rio de Janeiro, two athletes from the country took to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 92, an event held in the city of Salt Lake City, Utah (USA). Thales leites He made his jiu-jitsu count and submitted Chris Camozzi. Already Ron Jason felt the lack of rhythm and was overcome by Dennis Bermudez in the judges' decision.

UFC releases full card for Brasília event in September

In the first round, the Brazilian didn't take any chances in the stand-up fight with the North American and in the first few seconds he looked for a takedown. After Camozzi defended well, Thales reached the back through the clinch and attacked his rival in search of the submission.

The North American remained standing for practically the entire round with Leites on his back. In the final moments, he tried to free himself from the Brazilian and threw himself to the ground. But he ended up finishing the partial, giving up the mount to the Brazilian.

Thales repeated the strategy from the previous partial and quickly reached the clinch. The Brazilian took the fall and canceled all of his rival's action. Camozzi, once again, was unable to escape from the ground and only defended himself to avoid being submitted: first with a katagatame and then with a rear naked choke.

With the fight lost by the judges' decision, Camozzi went all out at the beginning of the third round. He landed two good punches and the Brazilian felt it. But Thales quickly sought the clinch, to breathe and seek the takedown afterwards.

On the ground, the black belt quickly turned his back and didn't miss the opportunity this ten times. The Brazilian closed the padlock around his waist, applied the choke and forced his rival to give up the fight.

Rony Jason falls to Bermudez

Away since May 2015, Ron Jason felt the lack of rhythm in his return to the octagon. Against the pressure game of Dennis Bermudez, the Ceará native suffered from falls and ended up overcoming the judges' decision.

Bermudez set an intense pace in the fight from the first second. Shorter, the North American abused his speed and quick movement to get out of range and shorten to take the fight to the ground.

The North American fell at the beginning of the partial. He took a stance, avoided an armbar attempt from the Brazilian, took a stance and started throwing elbows, which opened one in Jason's face.

In the second round, Jason even started well in the stand-up fight. After landing a blow on his rival, he tried the guillotine and accepted his rival on top. Bermudez quickly got out of the choke and continued the punishment on the ground until the end of the partial.

After being dominated in the first rounds, the Brazilian had the chance to win in the third round. Bermudez tried for a takedown, but the Brazilian turned very well and reached his rival's back.

Jason got to mount, got back on his back and had his chance to win the fight. But after trying to lock in the choke, the Brazilian lost his position and the North American managed to reverse it, ending the contest on top.

In the end, the three judges declared the victory of Dennis Bermudez: 30×27, 30×26, 30×27.

Argentine 'Xente Boa' wins another

In addition to Thales and Jason, another old acquaintance of the Brazilian public was in action at UFC Fight Night 92.  Santiago Ponzinibbio, famous for his participation in TUF Brasil and for defining himself on the reality show as: 'I'm an Argentine, I'm good', he did well at the event.

Facing Zak Cummings, Santiago avoided his rival's takedowns, abused his movement and always attacked with force.

The North American evened out the fight in the second round, with good strikes in the stand-up fight. But the Argentine regained control of the fight in the third round, moved forward, connected several punches on Zak to win a unanimous decision from the judges.
