Shortly after winning the UFC welterweight belt, Tyron woodley expressed his desire to face Georges St Pierre ou Nick Diaz in his first defense. However, the current first place in the weight ranking, Stephen Thompson, claimed his opportunity and guaranteed that he will dethrone Woodley as champion.
Thompson is in a moment of prominence within the UFC, with resounding victories over other big names in the welterweight division. Therefore, he believes that the most sensible thing would be, in fact, to put him to challenge Woodley next.
“He won three in a row. How many have I won? Seven. I cleared the category for this guy. I beat the best: number one [John hendricks] and number two [Rory McDonald]. I'm not saying he's scared, because I know he's not. He wants to make money, but I think I'm going to make money when I kick him in the head. I'm just warning you what's going to happen. That’s my category”, said Thompson, while commentating on UFC 201 on the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Thompson, 33 years old, has 13 wins and one setback in professional MMA – this happened in 2012, against Matt Brown.
