While Lyoto is coming off a defeat in the UFC, Couture is going through a positive phase in his career after considering retirement last year. At 46 years old, the North American has been undefeated for three fights, coming from two victories by submission. Already aiming for a confrontation with the Brazilian, “Captain America” guarantees that he will put pressure on the Tupiniquim athlete during the entire fight in an attempt to nullify the Bahian's distance game.

“Machida will try to get me to chase him inside the octagon. My objective is to avoid this fight plan of his by forcing him into direct confrontation. I'm not going to let him run for two whole rounds like he did against Rampage”, He stated.

Owner of a record with 19 wins and ten losses, Couture has five UFC titles during his career in the organization. The American was heavyweight champion on three occasions, in addition to having won the light heavyweight belt twice in his career. And, for the UFC 129 fight, the fighter promises to use all of his extensive MMA experience to his advantage.

“I will try to press him against the fence to punish him in the clinch. My strategy is to use experience to always put pressure on him through my punches, although this is not an easy task”, concluded Couture.
