UFC president Dana White's statement about a possible fight between the Brazilian Anderson Silva and Canadian Georges St-Pierre has shaken the MMA world in recent months. If the Canadian defeats Jake Shields at UFC 129, defending his belt for the sixth consecutive time, the manager's objective is to hold a fight between the champions this year.

“I haven't thought about a possible fight against Anderson yet. I need to talk to my team to discuss when the fight will take place, as well as other factors that involve a category change. Right now I'm just focused on Jake Shields,” said St-Pierre.

According to the Canadian, the task of gaining weight for this clash would be complicated, in addition to the Brazilian having already fought in heavier categories during his career. St-Pierre also highlighted Anderson's superiority in categories above middleweight, as the Brazilian athlete has two UFC victories in the light heavyweight division.

“It will take a long time for me to gain weight. Silva weighs over 100 kg naturally, he's a big guy. Whenever he fought as a light heavyweight he looked bigger than his opponents”, highlighted the champion.

St-Pierre further emphasized that he will measure the pros and cons of leaving the welterweight division. The athlete, who has been fighting in the same category for nine years, assured that he still has a lot to reflect on the subject, making clear his doubts regarding starting his career in the 84 kg category.

“I still don’t know if I’ll move up to middleweight. It would be a big change in my career, as well as putting a lot of things at risk. I will reflect more on this”, he added.
