The suggestion from the new holder of the UFC women's bantamweight belt, Amanda nunes, did not please its possible next rivals at all. This time, Julianna Pena refuted the Brazilian's statements and accused her of running away from the main challenges in her position as champion.
Last weekend, Amanda suggested that Valentina Shevchenko, who beat the former champion Holly holm, and Julianna Pena duel to decide who would be the next challenger for the belt. The first stated that the Brazilian is “scared”, and now it was Peña who was dismissive of Amanda’s statements.
“I think this is quite funny. It sounds like she's running away from both of us. She already had a fight with Valentina, so she knows what she's getting into. And she knows that a five-round fight with me would be cruel. She knows I would stand there and trade blows. So, I don’t think she sees this in a positive light and wants to make the most of her time as champion in whatever way she can,” analyzed Peña, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.
The “Venezuela Shrew”, as she is known, is undefeated in the octagon, with four wins in four fights. In his last fight, Peña beat the former challenger for the belt Zingano cat at UFC 200.
