Due to a back injury to the Armenian Manny gamburyan, the brazilian Raphael Assunção will have a new opponent at UFC 128. For the edition that will take place on March 19 in Newark, UFC officials have chosen the North American Erik koch to fill the only spot left on the preliminary card.
Assunção is coming off a victory over L. C. Davis, in the unanimous decision of the judges, at WEC 52, which took place last September. Koch has been undefeated for two fights, and in his last fight he knocked out his compatriot Francisco Rivera in another clash valid for the 52nd edition of the now-defunct WEC. The featherweight fight will mark the Brazilian's debut in the UFC.
UFC 128's main attraction will be the Brazilian's first title defense Mauritius Shogun, who will face the North American Jon Jones in the light heavyweight category. In addition to Assunção and Shogun, this edition of Ultimate will also feature four more Brazilians in action. Check out the full card:
