During preparations for his most recent fight, against Ovince St Preux, in April, Jon Jones surprised people on social media with videos of themselves lifting absurd amounts of weight. But, given an unsurprising performance at the time, the fighter assured that he will return to his old physical shape against Daniel Cormier, at UFC 200, this Saturday (9).

Despite dominating the entire fight against St. Preux, Jones had a poor performance by his standards, with his own trainer, Greg Jackson, credited the performance to heavy weightlifting preparation. For UFC 200, Jones assured that the situation is different.

“For this workout, I did practically zero weight lifting. In my last fight, that was definitely a factor in me being conservative, moderating the way I used my energy. I felt like I was in good shape, my lungs were strong, but I felt like the resistance of my muscles wasn't quite right”, explained the interim champion, in an interview reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

“You will be able to see this at the weigh-in, and also during the fight. My body looks much more like it used to, much less ripped. My resistance is incredible”, continued the fighter.

The fight between Jones and Cormier, which will put the definitive belt in the light heavyweight category (up to 93 kg) at stake, will be the main attraction of UFC 200.
