The specter of injuries hit yet another main fight of a UFC event in 2016. The victim this time was Michael chiesa, who would duel with Tony Ferguson in the biggest attraction of UFC Fight Night 91, an event that will be held on July 13th, in Siou Falls, South Dakota (USA).
Chiesa suffered a back injury, which was serious enough to make him withdraw from his commitment. “It's the first time I had to say I wasn't going to fight. Of course I'm disappointed. I have always prided myself on being very durable, both physically and spiritually. I've struggled with fractures, I've struggled shortly after having surgery, I've struggled shortly after recovering from infections. I can’t believe that I finally came across something that I couldn’t overcome”, said the athlete, upset.
Chiesa is expected to rest for eight weeks before starting physiotherapy. It is not yet known whether the fighter will require surgery. Meanwhile, the UFC continues to look for a new rival for Ferguson.
UFC Fight Night 91 already has 13 confirmed fights, two of which feature Brazilians: John Lineker faces Michael McDonald, and Rani Yaya Take Matthew Lopez.
