Former MMA fighter with stints in events such as UFC and PRIDE, Amar Suloev died last Monday (27), in the city of Anapa, Russia. The veteran lost a battle with stage IV stomach cancer and passed away at the age of 40.

Suloev had 31 professional MMA fights between 1999 and 2008, with 24 wins and seven losses. The Russian had two fights in the UFC (lost both, to Chuck Liddell and Phil Baroni), as well as four in PRIDE (two wins, against Murilo Bustamante and Dean Lister, and two losses, to Paul Philo and Denis Kang).
Outside of the battles, Suloev gained prominence in the news in his country in 2013, when he was arrested accused of being part of a gang that murdered politicians for hire. In May of this year, the Russian was released from jail on bail of R$157, precisely because he was weakened due to illness.
Suloev's death is one of the many tragedies involving former MMA fighters in 2016. In the first months of the year, Kevin Randleman (pneumonia), João Carvalho (brain problems after suffering a knockout), Jordan Parsons (run over) died. , Kimbo Slice (heart problems), Ivan Cole (suicide) and Ryan Jimmo (run over), as well as Brazilian referee Alessandro Souza (motorcycle accident).
