A few months ago, there was a lot of talk about the possibility of a boxing superfight between undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather and the UFC champion Conor McGregor. As the rumors cooled, the Irishman's coach, John Kavanagh, explained what was the factor that made it impossible for negotiations to go ahead: money.

In an interview with the “Business Post” newspaper, Kavanagh revealed that McGregor would only take home a small portion of the funds generated by the fight. “The talk was that McGregor would get $7 million and Floyd would get the rest. It would need to be a 50-50 split, or Conor won't accept it. No one generates as much media attention as Conor. Floyd would make a lot more money, but Floyd needs Conor more than Conor needs Floyd,” Kavanagh explained.
The trainer praised Mayweather, but highlighted that McGregor has a different characteristic than the boxer is used to. “Floyd is incredible. He is incredible. I don't think there's a single boxer who could overcome him. He’s already discovered boxing, but Conor doesn’t move like a boxer,” he analyzed.
McGregor is scheduled to return to the UFC: it will be on August 20th, when he will have a rematch against Nate diaz at UFC 202, in Las Vegas (USA).
