At just 20 years old, the São Paulo native Charles “from the Bronx” debuted in the UFC octagon last August. The athlete won his first two fights by submission, but got a taste of his own medicine when he was defeated by the American Jim Miller at UFC 124.
Despite the setback, the Brazilian's prestige among the event's directors appears not to have been shaken. This weekend, Charles renewed his contract with the UFC for four more fights. The Brazilian highlighted that he was satisfied with remaining in the organization due to the high number of lightweight fighters in the UFC after the merger with the WEC, a fact that further intensifies the dispute in the category.
“I am very happy with the renovation. The UFC has been firing a lot of lightweights, so I feel blessed to have my job secured in 2011,” he said.
Charles is still awaiting the definition of his next opponent in the UFC. The pupil of Jorge Patino “Monkey” He began his professional career in 2008 and was undefeated in 14 fights until his loss to Miller early last month.
