WEC Lightweight Champion, Anthony Pettis expected the opportunity to unify his title with the UFC belt against the winner of the fight between Frankie Edgar e Gray Maynard. But the tie between Edgar e Maynard, caused Ultimate's president, Dana White, to force a new duel and postpone the North American's plans. In an interview with the MMA Weekly website, Mike Robert, Pettis' manager, revealed the athlete's frustration.
“Anthony was obviously disappointed about not being able to fight for the belt, but he understands why Dana made that decision,” he said. Robert. The businessman, however, emphasizes that Anthonny will fight until the next opportunity to fight for the belt.
“After consulting with Anthony and Roufus Duke (Pettis’ coach), we jointly decided that it would be best for Anthony to have one more fight before the unification,” he concluded.
