Former lightweight champion, the American Anthony Pettis he will be in a new category from his next fight. Coming off three consecutive defeats, the worst record of his career, Pettis announced on social media that he is moving down to featherweight.
In his official profile at Instagram, Pettis released an image in which he appears alongside his team with the following caption: “Working to reach 66kg (featherweight limit)”. According to Pettis' manager, Malki Kawa, on the “MMA Fighting” website, the former champion will work with nutritionist Mike Dolce to reach the featherweight limit and plans to make his debut in the new division in August.
At 29, Anthony Pettis has a professional record of 18 wins and five losses. After losing the lightweight belt to Rafael dos Anjos in March of last year, Pettis suffered two more defeats, to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza. “Showtime” had already thought about moving down a division in the past and would face the then featherweight champion José Aldo in 2013, but ended up getting injured and being cut from the fight in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
