As soon as the fight started, it became clear what the Brazilian's strategy would be: defend her rival's takedowns and go after her striking. Bate-Estaca closed the distance well and launched a veritable barrage of punches at Penne, who was reduced to defending himself and trying to escape to the side. The North American suffered a hard knockdown at the end of the first round, but was saved by the bell.
Upon returning to the second round, Penne's hurt face suggested that the end was near. And he didn't take long to arrive. The North American even attempted a takedown, but was unsuccessful and ended up trapped on the railing again. Faced with the absurd sequence of blows delivered by the Brazilian, the central judge intervened and interrupted the fight, considering that Penne was knocked out standing up.
After the gala exhibition, Bate-Estaca has already defined its next target: the former champion of the category Carla esparza. “Carla, you said you didn’t want to fight me, because I might not make weight. Guess? I am here. We will have an event in Brazil in September. Dana White, make this fight happen!”, said the Brazilian.
Frankenstein debuts with exciting victory
In an open fight full of possibilities, Brazilian Luiz Henrique Frankenstein debuted in Ultimate with a knockout victory. After experiencing difficulties in the first round, the Brazilian recovered in the second round and defeated the American Jonathan Wilson.
Feeling a bit of pressure from his debut in the Octagon, Frankenstein suffered from blows in the clinch from Wilson, but seemed unfazed. The Brazilian also connected good punches on his rival, but ended up being disadvantaged in the first half.
In the second round, Frankenstein seemed to have decided to end the fight again. He quickly landed a direct right on Wilson's face, who accused the blow. Even though he was taken down by his rival, the Brazilian managed the sweep and went to mount. Making use of the best position on the ground, he simply threw punches at the ground and pound to end the fight.
Muhammad Ali's son-in-law ties
The death of the legendary Muhammad Ali brought the fighting world to a halt this Saturday (4) and moved fans around the planet. Despite the pain of losing his father-in-law, Ultimate fighter Kevin Casey overcame his grief and stepped into the octagon to face Elvis Mutaptic.
In a fight with alternation of dominance, with Casey getting the better of the grappling and clinch, and Mutapcic being superior in striking and in the ground and pound, the judges ended up seeing a tied duel, with one judge scoring 28-28 and two others disagreeing on the winner of the confrontation.
After the fight, very emotional, Casey summarized the feeling of acting right after the loss of the sports icon and father of his wife into the microphone of official commentator Joe Rogan. “I have a lot to go through before a fight. I would just like to thank my family for supporting me. Thank you,” he said.
