Before your fight against Nate diaz, in March, Conor McGregor he celebrated the fact that he didn't need to cut weight for the fight. In an interview with the ESPN website, McGregor said he was not satisfied with the final stretch of his training. “Swinging on gymnastics rings during fight week wasn’t the best idea. Normally, I wrap myself in plastic [to facilitate weight loss] and just do fight stuff, but because I didn't need to cut weight, I thought 'I'm free'. I had energy to burn. I was worrying about moving my legs and my feet were raw. It was ridiculous. I don’t know what I was thinking,” he commented.
However, McGregor believes that, even with inadequate preparation, he was very close to winning. “The first eight minutes of the fight were easy. Let's be honest, I beat the shit out of him. As long as I had breath, that was it. But I sank. He punched me and got him back in the game. He was about to be finished, one or two more punches and I would end the fight”, he analyzed.
On that occasion, McGregor ended up submitting with a rear naked choke in the second round. The two athletes would have a rematch in the main fight of UFC 200, but the new duel ended up being cancelled. Now, the reunion is being negotiated to headline UFC 202, in August, but nothing has been officially defined.
