Edgar bets on patience to beat Maynard

Frankie Edgar will defend the lightweight belt for the second time at UFC-125. The North American will face his compatriot Gray Maynard, in a rematch of the duel that took place in 2008, when the current champion was defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges. In an interview with the website Sherdog, Edgar analyzed the first fight against Maynard and spoke about his expectations for the rematch.

“I don't think I lost (the first fight) because I was the smallest. I was simply defeated because he (Maynard) fought more that night, and his game plan worked better than mine. But I really was a little smaller than I am now. I’ve gained a little weight since that time, but so has he,” analyzed Edgar.

“Maynard will still have the advantage of wingspan. I'm sure he's preparing (for a five-round fight), but he doesn't have the experience to act like I did in my last two fights. I hope to control the fight, cook Gray how I want and define it in the fourth or fifth round“, concluded the current champion.

The fight between Frankie Edgar e Gray Maynard will be the main attraction of UFC-125, an event that takes place on January 2nd, in Las Vegas, United States.
