Anthony Pettis: “I want to be the best in the world”

the american Anthony Pettis lived up to his nickname last Thursday. “Showtime” had an impeccable performance in front of Ben henderson, at WEC 53, becoming the organization's new lightweight champion (remember here). Next year, Pettis will have the chance to unify the WEC and UFC belts by facing the winner of the fight between the current champion Frankie Edgar and the challenger Gray Maynard who will face each other at UFC 125.

After his father's murder in 2003, the athlete considered abandoning the sport, but found motivation thanks to his coach Duke Roufus. After seven years of total dedication to MMA, Pettis is in the best phase of his professional career.

“Winning the belt was a dream that came true. My father was with me during the beginning of my journey in martial arts. When he died I thought about giving up the sport, but I found in MMA the motivation to compete again”, said the champion.

At just 23 years old, Pettis is a rising star on the international stage. The North American has 14 fights on his record, having won on 13 occasions. Now in the UFC, the athlete will seek to establish his name among the best lightweights today.
