At the Venator FC 3 event, in Milan, Italy, Toquinho, who hadn't lost since his time in the UFC, was surprised by Emil Meek in the first round. The Brazilian tried to take down his rival, who defended himself by throwing several elbows to the head and getting the knockout.
In an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website, Toquinho claimed that the blow used by the Norwegian is prohibited in the rules of the sport. “What happened wrong was that I was hit by illegal elbows in the back of my head and I couldn't see anything after that. When I got hit, I blacked out. I couldn't even understand what had happened. I felt the blow to the back of my head and, out of nowhere, I saw the referee in front of me. I felt pain in the back of my head”, reported the Brazilian.
Regardless of the legality of the blows, Toquinho denied that he entered the fight without taking his opponent seriously. “I never underestimate anyone who enters a cage to fight. If you can get out there and fight someone like me who has been through a lot, you definitely can do it. Besides, who am I to underestimate anyone in this world?” he added.
