In recent weeks, rumors of a possible superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather gained more and more strength, to the point that the duel already has a supposed “official date”. In his podcast, North American presenter Collin Cowherd, from the FOX Sports cable channel (UFC's partner in the USA), assured that the duel between the MMA star and the former boxer will take place in the next quarter.

“I believe the news will break out in the coming weeks… I, in fact, have already booked two rooms, for September 17th and 18th, in Las Vegas. My source assured that Conor McGregor x Floyd Mayweather is going to happen. Things changed at the end of last week. I got a call and then someone sent me a few messages on Saturday and Sunday. Soon, I booked the rooms in Las Vegas. It will happen in September!”, stated the presenter.

Still according to Cowherd, the million-dollar investment would have even promoted an agreement between competing TV stations in the USA and would be motivated by the latest figures pay-per-view of Floyd's career. “Mayweather didn’t do well on his last PPV, 550 thousand people, and he was trying for 2 or 3 million. So, I think this is the most profitable fight for CBS and Mayweather. CBS has been working with Mayweather for years. That's why he fights on Showtime, which is owned by CBS. So, Les Moonves (president and CEO of CBS) and CBS directors decided: 'Let's talk to FOX and the UFC team'. This way you have FOX and CBS, UFC, boxing, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, all together. This will make a lot of money for a lot of people,” she concluded.

According to Mayweather himself, in a statement given in recent weeks, the duel between him and McGregor would be promoted under boxing rules. The former boxer also showed interest in strengthening ties with MMA and even managing the current interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. McGregor has been positive about the duel, but recently said he is “in charge” of the negotiations.
