Not even around Jon Jones or overwhelming knockout of the dominant flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson up on the Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo were enough to boost UFC 197 sales, pay-per-view held by the Ultimate organization in April. Although they were not necessarily a resounding failure, the card's PPV numbers were far from a great success and disappointing.

According to journalist Dave Meltzer, from the North American website “Wrestling Observer”, the main reference in the market for selling PPV packages, the numbers for UFC 197 were between 375 and 450 thousand units sold. By way of comparison, Jones' previous fight, in January last year against Daniel Cormier, sold 800 thousand packages. This was also Bones' third worst performance leading a pay-per-view, only surpassing his struggles against Glover Teixeira e Alexander Gustafson.

Despite performance below expectations, the numbers place Jon Jones as the third leading PPV seller in the Ultimate organization today, behind Ronda Rousey e Conor McGregor – who, in 2015 alone, in his last five fights combined, sold an incredible 4,6 million packages.
