Cigano stated that his compatriot did not make the right decision with his strategy, as the wisest option, in his opinion, would be to take the fight to the ground, where he specializes. Werdum only tried to take Miocic down once, but without success.

“Werdum looked the same as ever. He is not a changer. He can't trade with a specialist like Miocic. If you try to remember, he was taking delay against Mark Hunt. He lost the first round and was losing the second, but then he landed a hard knee and won the fight. But he was losing. Against [Cain] Velasquez he was much better, but it's not the same. He should have tried to take the fight to the ground and use jiu-jitsu. When he was knocked out, he was attacking without defending himself. It was very strange. But, as I usually say, he, as a striker, is a great jiu-jitsu fighter”, said Cigano, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

Cigano has already beaten Werdum against Miocic in the UFC. In his debut in the organization, in 2008, the Santa Catarina native knocked out his compatriot in the first round; In 2014, Cigano beat Miocic in a tough decision from the judges.
