“Everything I do I am extreme, 100%. Everyone told me that cycling was dangerous and I believed that the right to come and go was equal for everyone, be it cars, pedestrians and bicycles. But I felt firsthand that it wasn't quite like that. I had a serious accident and will have to have surgery on my shoulder on my left knee. A guy who saw it said I was born again, and the guy who ran me over didn't stop to help me! I'm very sad because I could have died. My helmet broke. If I had been without it, I don't know what could have happened. Then I thought about how many cyclists die every day and no one says anything”, wrote the Brazilian on his Instagram account.

Therefore, Wanderlei stated that he will fight more for cyclists' rights in the future. “This happened in Curitiba, a 'model city'. We have to greatly improve the conditions given to cyclists, as the bicycle is a vehicle like any other and deserves the same rights. I am very sad about what happened, but I will fight so that we cyclists can have the same rights as everyone else”, he added.
