Successfully defending your belt is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting moments for an MMA champion. The bantamweight title holder of the Invicta FC women's event Tonya Evinger, however, chose a very peculiar way to celebrate her victory over challenger Colleen Schneider last Saturday (07). After the triumph, Tonya kissed TV commentator Laura Sanko, who was interviewing her, on the lips.

Evinger's story still has, let's say, more dramatic contours – at least for Sanko. After all, shortly after her victory, due to the physical exhaustion of the five-round fight won by a unanimous decision by the judges, Tonya had vomited into a bucket in her corner – something that, in fact, has practically become a trademark of hers throughout of the last fights. The kiss with the commentator happened immediately after the unsanitary episode.

Evinger's explanation, who is openly homosexual, for the sudden kiss was simple: she said she wanted to win the “MMA Moment of 2016”. Sanko, a friend of the fighter, commented on the episode on social media and took the story with good humor. “I don't even know what to say (laughs), that was hilarious. It's okay, Tonya Evinger is a bigger joker, but we are great friends (laughs)”, wrote the commentator, along with a photo next to the athlete.

In the ring, in a very confident performance, Tonya Evinger beat Colleen Schneider in a unanimous decision from the judges and defended for the first time the Invicta FC bantamweight title, won by her in July last year. Evinger – who tried to enter TUF 18, but ended up eliminated in the qualifying phase of the reality show – has been undefeated in professional MMA since 2011 and has had no less than eleven consecutive victories.

But the Invicta FC 17 card, held last Saturday (07), had more than just Tonya Evinger's fun moment. In the co-main fight of the night, Brazilian Lívia Renata Souza would defend the strawweight belt for the second time, against the TUF 20 participant and former UFC fighter Angela Hill.

In a very balanced fight, however, Livinha, as she is known, ended up being defeated by Hill and lost the belt, which had been hers since April of last year. Additionally, the São Paulo native also saw her unbeaten record in MMA fall and suffered her first defeat in ten fights as a professional.
