Cigano suffered an injury to his right shoulder in the fight against the North American, which he won by decision. Given the medical diagnosis, the Brazilian preferred to undergo a surgical procedure to correct the injury once and for all.

“I had surgery to repair my labrum [cartilaginous portion of the shoulder] and a level four injury to my rotator cuff [group of muscles and tendons there]. A level four injury is serious, so I needed to undergo this surgery”, said the Brazilian fighter, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Cigano stated that, if his recovery goes as expected, he will be free to return to training in 12 weeks. In recent years, the Brazilian has suffered a series of injuries, which has allowed him to only have three fights since the beginning of 2014.
