Serious? Conor McGregor announces retirement from MMA

Irishman used his Twitter account to reveal that he is stopping fighting. UFC still doesn't confirm champion's decision

the irish Conor McGregor surprised everyone by announcing that he is retiring from MMA this Tuesday (19). The 27-year-old fighter, who often jokes with fans on social media, made the revelation in a post on Twitter. However, the UFC featherweight champion did not deny the information and rumors that the fact could be true grew on social media and websites around the world.

“I decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese (money). I’ll talk to you later”, narrated the Irishman who is scheduled for July 9th, in the main fight of UFC 200, in Las Vegas (USA).

The message raised speculation that the Irishman was in a complicated negotiation with the UFC in search of a salary increase. Another thesis raised is that he was impressed by the death of Portuguese João Carvalho in a fight against one of his teammates, Charlie Ward, last week.

McGregor-retiredConor McGregor He has a record of 19 wins and three losses as a professional. The Irishman arrived at the UFC, still without much prestige in 2013. But with his provocative style outside the Octagon and aggressive inside the fight area, he soon won fans and enemies around the world. The 'Notorious' teased  José Aldo for many years looking for a title fight until defeating the Brazilian with a devastating knockout, in just 12 seconds, at UFC 194, in December 2015 and taking the featherweight title (up to 66 kg.).

Soon after, he would challenge the also Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos, at UFC 196, in February, for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg.). But dos Anjos was injured and McGregror moved up another category to face Nate diaz in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg.). However, Conor felt the big change in weight and was submitted by the North American in the second round.

Even with the unexpected setback, McGregor gained the chance to star in UFC 200, the organization's main event in recent years in a rematch against Diaz. He is constantly praised by Dana White, president of the UFC, as the athlete who best promotes his fights in the organization.
