Last week, former champion Georges St Pierre revealed that he had been talking to the UFC about his return to fighting, but did not give details about the progress of the negotiations. This time, the Canadian opened up and revealed what the big obstacle is: the UFC's sponsorship policy with Reebok.

Since July last year, all fighters under contract with Ultimate have been required to wear Reebok uniforms during fight week, which includes both the fights themselves and press conferences. Therefore, many athletes reported suffering financial losses from the business, as the use of personal sponsorships is no longer allowed.

As his contract with the UFC predates this policy, GSP stated that he is negotiating this term. “A lot of things have changed in my contract. We may need to renegotiate a new one. I no longer have permission to use my sponsors, and so I lose money. It depends on how the conversations go with the UFC. Let’s see what will happen”, commented the former champion, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

St. Pierre was the UFC welterweight champion for a long time. His most recent fight was in November 2013, when, still holding the title, he beat John hendricks in a tight decision by the judges.
