Chinzo Machida, brother of the former UFC champion Lyoto Machida, is back in MMA. The fighter, who was away from competition for four years, was announced on the card of the eighth edition of WFE Platinum, an event that takes place on December 15th, at the luxurious Fiesta Bahia Hotel, in Salvador. The karateka will measure forces against the Bahian Leonardo Laiola, pupil of Luiz Carlos Dórea and has a record of four wins and just one defeat.
Chinzo debuted MMA in 2005, in the fourth edition of Jungle Fight, and knocked out Cristiano Rosa. In his second appearance, in the sixth edition of Jungle, he was finished by Frenchman Bryan Rafiq, in 2006.
“I fought anything to try it, because Lyoto already did it and wanted to test me, because my father always taught karate as a martial art. I had two fights, but then there was the World Championship and several other Brazilians in karate, I got involved, and I was only able to return now”, comments the athlete.
Lyoto's younger brother, Chinzo claims that his fighting style is different and more aggressive than the former UFC champion's world-renowned style of play.
“I think the offensive part is characteristic of each one. Mine was always more offensive and Lyoto's was more counterattacking. But we have to balance, I can't be too offensive and make myself vulnerable, I can't get flustered. I have to stay calm and find the right moment to attack and defend,” she reveals.
