Henderson reports financial losses with cancellation of fight with Lyoto

The frustrations of Dan Henderson for the unexpected cancellation of his fight against Lyoto Machida go far beyond the sporting sphere. The American veteran stated that he will be in a more complicated financial situation due to the fact that he will not receive the pay he expected this weekend.

The fight between Henderson and Lyoto was canceled after the Brazilian admitted to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) last week that he had ingested a banned substance. Due to the proximity of the event, the UFC removed Henderson from the card in Tampa (USA) and scheduled another fight for the veteran in June, at UFC 199.

In an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”, Henderson stated that he will not even keep the minimum payment that fighters receive during the week of the events. “I will not receive any money for attending. Unfortunately, I don't get paid if I don't fight. I'm also not getting any money from Reebok or anything. Dana [White, UFC president] offered me some money to help pay for training costs, but I still find myself in a difficult situation, especially since it's tax season. I was already counting on the salary [for the fight]. What Dana offered me is insignificant compared to what I would get if I fought,” he explained.

Henderson did not remove responsibility for the events from Lyoto. “He screwed up a lot of people’s plans. About 50 people are going to come from California to see me fight, so there are a lot of people mad at him right now. And I already paid for everything. It affected a lot of people,” he lamented.
