It was only when the UFC announced that it would hold its first event in New York on November 12th that candidates emerged to make up the card. Frankie Edgar showed a desire to participate in the attraction, preferably with the long-awaited fight against Conor McGregor, valid for the featherweight belt.

Edgar, born in New Jersey, near New York, will first have to defeat José Aldo at UFC 200, in July, in a duel that will put the interim belt in the category at stake. If he wins, the American hopes to fight for the definitive title at UFC 205, at Madison Square Garden.
“I would love to win in July and fight McGregor for the real title at the Garden in November. If not with McGregor, then I would be defending my title at the Garden”, revealed Edgar, in an interview with the “FOX Business” website.
UFC 200 will mark an unusual situation, as Aldo and Edgar will fight for the interim belt even though the linear champion is also participating in the event. McGregor will be in the main fight of the attraction, in a rematch against Nate diaz, valid for the welterweight category.
“It’s a silly situation that doesn’t make any sense. But I was left with a five-round fight, against a legend like Aldo, on one of the biggest cards in history. There are many positive sides to this. Furthermore, the interim title would guarantee that I compete for the real belt”, he pondered.
