Lyoto admits use of prohibited substance and fight with Henderson is canceled

Brazilian reported to USADA that he used a banned substance without being aware that it was illegal

UFC on FOX 19, an event that will take place this Saturday (16), in Tampa, United States, has undergone yet another important change at short notice. Lyoto Machida, who would take revenge against Dan Henderson on the main card of the attraction, he declared that he used a prohibited substance during an exam carried out last week, which caused the fight to be cancelled.

According to a statement issued by the UFC, the test in question was conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the organization's official partner. Machida reported to the entity that he used a prohibited substance without being aware that it was illegal. Although it is not yet known whether this substance was detected in the test, the UFC chose to remove the fight from the schedule.

Ultimate did not reveal what substance it was, but clarified that the fact that Lyoto admitted its use will be taken into consideration when possible punishments are discussed.

Lyoto, 37 years old, is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and even challenged for the middleweight belt in 2014, losing to Chris Weidman. This was another change in the card of UFC Tampa: Tony Ferguson e Mauritius Shogun, which would face Khabib Nurmagomedov e Rashad evans in prominent fights on the schedule, they also left the event due to injuries. The main fight of the night was between Glover Teixeira and Evans.
