With the merger of the UFC and WEC organizations (remember here), the Brazilian José Aldo became the first UFC featherweight champion. With this, the Brazilian athlete already has a set date to debut in the UFC and defend his belt.
The entity's president, Dana White, announced that the Brazilian will be in action at UFC-125, January 1st, in Las Vegas. Aldo's opponent has not yet been defined, but several rumors in the international press point to the Canadian Mark hominick as a candidate for the title. The top hat, right after the announcement, spared no praise for José Aldo.
“This kid could be a big star,” said Dana White about the Brazilian.
