At the beginning of the fight, the two athletes studied each other a lot and avoided open exchanges. In the second round, the fight remained warm, with Whiteford trying to maintain a long distance, in order to avoid the Brazilian's combinations. However, whenever Mineiro approached his rival, he connected blows that shook him, especially his crosses. With about a minute left, Lucas managed to frame his opponent against the cage and once again threw a flying knee. The Scot's response came with a good takedown in the final minute.

In the third and decisive round, the pace of the fight dropped even further and little was seen on either side, with no takedowns or hard blows for either fighter. At the end of the three rounds, two of the three jurors saw the victory of lucas mineiro, one for two rounds to one and another with an advantage for the Brazilian in all three rounds. Thus, Lucas won in a split decision from the judges.
