The UFC once again suffered from injuries and was forced to change the main fight of an event. Tony Ferguson was cut off from combat against Khabib Nurmagomedov, on April 16, in Tampa (USA), due to the presence of blood and fluid in his lung. As much as it is an unusual problem, the North American explained that his withdrawal from the fight was necessary, as any additional damage to his body could have very serious consequences.
Ferguson took to his Instagram account to give more details of what happened. “I'm out of the fight due to the presence of blood and fluid in my lung. Normally I can get through trouble, but the doctor said it wouldn't be smart to fight like this. Any further trauma could be fatal. There are more important things for me, like the guarantee that I will be here for my family, which comes first”, wrote the athlete, whose wife is pregnant.
Therefore, Ferguson believes he will be 100% recovered in a matter of weeks, which made him propose rescheduling the fight with Nurmagomedov. “Give me a few weeks. Khabib has already left fights three times, whereas for me it only happened once in my entire career. I will come back. It sucks that this happens, but I have positive thoughts. I offer Khabib an eliminatory fight for the belt on May 29th. I just need a few weeks to get better and get back to work. Take the fight, Khabib,” he continued.
Ferguson, 32 years old, is having a great time in the UFC. “El Cucuy”, as he is known, won seven consecutive victories, including over Edson Barboza e Josh thomson.
