Mitrione was one of the fighters who most resisted the UFC's sponsorship agreement with Reebok, which came into effect in the middle of last year. With the contract, all athletes were prohibited from entering into agreements with their own sporting equipment suppliers, in addition to the fact that sponsors were no longer allowed to be exposed during fights.

With his usual loose tongue, Mitrione said few good things about the UFC. “They rob you from your left pocket and your right pocket, and you're stuck there. Not that you are completely broken, but you are stuck there, with one hand in front and one behind. I did what they expected of me, and they pushed me with their stomachs. They pulled out the chair when I was going to sit down,” said Mitrione, in an interview with the North American website “Bleacher Report”.

Mitrione was another athlete who recently left the UFC for Bellator. Josh thomson, Benson Henderson and Phil Davis it was other prominent athletes who did the same.
