The Brazilian admitted that overcoming the bad phase has been a challenge. “Dealing with this negative moment has been very difficult, because since I debuted in the UFC in 2008, I have only had victories, victories and victories. Then I became champion. After I lost to Cain Velazquez, I started to experience very, very bad times, including injuries. Now I’m trying to get out of this bad phase and live the moments of victory again”, explained Cigano, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

The Brazilian will try to rediscover his winning ways on April 10, against Ben Rothwell, in the main fight of the UFC's debut in Croatia. Cigano recognizes that victory is essential for continuing his career at a high level. “It’s a very important fight for me. I know that a victory will put me in the position I was in before, first or second in the rankings, and close to a new fight for the title. Of course I'm not thinking about fighting for the title right now, I just want to be in the best position I can. It’s my life that’s at stake, and that’s very important,” he analyzed.

In his most recent fight, Cigano lost to alistair overeem by technical knockout, in the co-main fight of UFC on FOX 18. Rothwell, on the other hand, is on a good run, with four consecutive victories – two by knockout and two by submission.
