Former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles was scheduled to face Brazilian Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 52, which takes place on November 11th in Las Vegas. However, the American fractured his right foot during training for the fight and had to cancel his participation in the event. According to the athlete's manager, Andrew Beach, the injury occurred after Bowles landed a kick to his training partner's elbow, a fact that keeps the fighter away from the octagons until next year.

The WEC organization is already looking for a new opponent for Fabiano. The most popular name to take Bowles's place is that of his compatriot Joseph Benavidez, an athlete well versed in wrestling and kickboxing who has 14 wins and two losses on his record. Benavidez already had the opportunity to challenge for the WEC bantamweight belt, where he was defeated by the current champion Dominick Cruz by split decision at WEC 50, held on August 18th this year.
