Protagonist of the 2015 “Fight of the Year” and current number one in the welterweight category, Rory McDonald could be leaving the UFC if he doesn't receive a substantial increase in his contract renewal. In an interview, the young Canadian said that he will complete the last fight of his contract with Ultimate, against Stephen Thompson in June, and will then look for the best salary offer possible, either within the organization itself or one of its competitors.

“I will be fighting my sixth fight of my six-fight contract and I will be free afterwards. Basically, we haven't come to an agreement, so I'm going to honor my contract and go from there. I'll try to have a dominant performance to show how much I'm worth in my next fight. Suddenly, then we reach an agreement. I want to make as much money as I can. I want to get paid for what I bring to the table. I sacrificed a lot to reach the top, to the world title. I took a lot of risks and did a lot of favors for the UFC and I don't think I got the return I should have. So now, it's all about money and whoever pays me the best is where I'm going”, said Rory, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.
