Scheduled to do the main fight of FCF-5, Glover Teixeira will no longer be in the fifth edition of the event, scheduled for October 23rd, in São Paulo. But this new change in the show's card is not due to injury. Valued for his good run of victories, the black belt signed a contract with the Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC), the main MMA tournament in Canada.
“This is a great opportunity in Glover’s career. He will fight for the tournament's light heavyweight belt against Ryan Jimmo. We terminated our contract with FCF amicably. We are going to pay the termination fine and we want to thank the FCF for the opportunity”, explained the fighter's manager, Jorge Guimarães, known as Joinha.
Glover, in turn, regretted the cancellation of the fight at FCF, but was grateful for the showcase given by the event.
“I was already at the end of my preparation to face Pezão, but this unique chance came up and I had to take it. I regret not being able to do this fight, but I still hope to have another chance to be in the FCF.”
Despite the loss, the event organizers took the opportunity to wish the fighter luck. “It’s something that happens. It shows the strength of the FCF, the strength of the MMA market and how relationships between fighters and events are becoming increasingly professional. Now we just wish Glover much success and that he brings this belt to Brazil”, said Roberto Godoi, organizer and creator of the FCF.
Now, the First Class Fight organization is looking for a new opponent for Marco Antonio Pezão in the fifth edition of the event.
“You can be sure that we will maintain a high level card. We are looking for a worthy rival for Pezão. We already have some names, but we will only announce them when we close”, added Godoi.
