Brazil has another champion in a major MMA event. The Curitiba Jennifer maia defeated compatriot Vanessa Porto and won the interim flyweight belt (up to 57 kg) at Invicta FC, an exclusively women's event that has strong contractual links with the UFC. The duel between the Brazilians was one of the attractions of the 16th edition of the show, held in the early hours of Saturday (12), in Las Vegas (USA).

The fight

The fight between Jeniffer Maia and Vanessa Porto was exciting, competitive and with twists and turns from start to finish. Vanessa started better. The São Paulo native played a fair game, striking with punches and precise takedowns in the first rounds.

However, Jennifer came back willing to change the pace of the fight in the third round. Younger and with better physical condition, the Curitiba native began to turn the fight around. She landed good kicks to the waist that wore Vanessa down. Porto was no longer able to take Maia down and showed tiredness.

History repeated itself in the fourth round, Jeniffer avoided falls, pressed Vanessa against the bars and scored points.

In the fifth and final round, with the fight tied and the athletes quite worn out, Jennifer changed tactics and sought a fair fight, dominating the clinch on the fence. Vanessa, already quite tired, was unable to react and ended up defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges (48×47, 48×47, 48×47).

Belt in the main fight

The main attraction of Invicta FC 16 also had a belt at stake. Japanese Ayaka Hamasaki, who took the atomweight belt (up to 47 kg) from Brazilian Herica Tiburcio, in July 2015 submitted American Amber Brown at 2:52 of the third round and retained the title.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
