Teixeira, former challenger for the category belt, is coming off two consecutive victories, over Ovince St Preux and Patrick Cummins. Evans, who held the weight title between 2008 and 2009, is at a time of instability: due to a series of injuries, the American has only had one fight since 2013, with a defeat to Ryan bader in October last year. Glover and Rashad were due to face each other at the beginning of last year, at UFC Porto Alegre, but both were injured and left the card.

Interestingly, this wasn't the first time that a fight between Shogun and Evans failed to get off the ground. In 2011, the American would be the first challenger for the Brazilian's title, but suffered an injury. His replacement was Jon Jones, who defeated Shogun and established himself in the under-93 kg division.
