UFC 196 weigh-in features swearing, fights and even 'McGregor cover'

Protagonists of the main fight had to be separated immediately after coming face to face; Tom Lawlor imitated Irish

Expectations were high. After almost coming to blows in the week leading up to the duel, Conor McGregor e Nate diaz raised more expectations for their look than for the weigh-in that preceded it. However, it wasn't just the public that expected this, and a strong security scheme was set up in order to avoid further confusion.

Even so, a small fight broke out between the Irishman and the North American, who were separated and ended up facing each other on opposite sides of the stage. The distance, however, did not intimidate the opponents, who exchanged insults, swear words and obscene gestures – especially Diaz.

In the interview, Nate once again showed why he is one of the greatest bad boys of MMA and was succinct in his words, but heated up the atmosphere for the fight. “I will kill or be killed tomorrow. F*** this idiot! F*** you!”, fired the Californian.

First to take the stage,  Nate diaz He found himself in front of a divided audience, between boos and applause. The younger brother of Nick Diaz weighed 76,6 kg, 400g less than the limit allowed for the category.

Soon after, it was McGregor's turn to appear to the delight of the fans. The Irishman joked about the weight at which the fight takes place and caressed his belly. On the scale, Notório weighed 76,2 kg and confirmed the duel. The “Notório” was more measured in his statement, but he didn't miss the chance to provoke his rival.

“It's just another day for me, I'm used to it. I've never seen such a skinny guy fight in my life, I'm impressed. Weight is not an issue, I am prepared for anyone and I will put on a great show for these guys”, he said.

Miesha and Holly confirm fight in good weather

In a much friendlier atmosphere than the opponents in the main fight. Miesha Tate e Holly holm, stars of the night's co-main event, had no trouble making weight. The tranquility was also repeated in the look, quite cordial.

The first to take the stage was Miesha Tate. The challenger, who will make her second fight for the Ultimate title, reached the 61,2 kg limit without difficulty. Much more serious than her rival, Holm entered soon after and went directly to the scales. The champion was still 200g below the permitted limit and weighed 61 kg.

Under the shouts of “Holly! Holly! Holly!” from the public, Holm went to face her, but the atmosphere was very mild in front of her rival. On the microphones too, there was a lot of respect from Holm, who spoke quickly about the pressure of being the new title holder. “It’s a new type of training, the nerves are on edge. The November fight is over, now it’s over and I’m ready for this one,” she assured her.

One of the most fun moments at the weigh-in was the arrival of light heavyweight Tom Lawlor. Always fun and good-natured, Lawlor, who normally pays homage to former fighters in his entrances, decided to dress up as a current star: Conor McGregor.

With his hair in the same style as the Irishman and even the Notorious tattoos made with stickers, Lawlor weighed 92,8 kg. Your opponent, the most modest asset Corey anderson, hit 200g less and confirmed the duel. In the face-off, Lawlor even imitated McGregor's pose to end his act.

Brazilians make weight without any problems

The first Brazilians to go on stage were on opposite sides: Marcelo Guimarães and Vitor miranda, who face each other on the preliminary card. Both fighters weighed the same 84,1 kg. In the face, as expected, the compatriots maintained a mild climate and demonstrated mutual respect.

In the next fight, it was the turn of the “Fenômeno Capixaba” Erick silva. The Brazilian, who is now doing his training camp at Kings MMA with his coach Rafael dos Anjos, beat the same 77,1 kg as Nordine Taleb and confirmed the penultimate duel on the preliminary card.

In the last confrontation with Brazilian athletes represented, the first to take the stage was Valentina Shevchenko. The Kyrgyzstani naturalized Peruvian weighed 60,8 kg. The Brazilian Amanda nunes He arrived with a very different style than usual, with a mohawk styled haircut. The Lioness, as she is known, scored 61,6, using the pound limit in fights that are not worth the title.
